Hi!
I bought a new HP Notebook about 3-4 months ago. A few weeks ago it started to shut down at random times. I have checked the temperature and it stays at around 48 degrees. The fan is set to always on in BIOS.
Thanks
Eva

Hi @Mudzi,
Thanks for replying. I really appreciate your effort in trying to resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:
1. Run the system diagnostics test from F2 - Click here
2. Check if there any particular program or application causing this.
3. Let's try and update the Bios and chipset drivers: Here is the link.
4. Also, you can try leaving the PC in the Bios for a day and check if the PC stays on or does it shuts down. If it shuts down then we can consider this to be a hardware failure. So you may contact our HP Phone Support for available service options. Please visit Contact HP and fill in the product details to get the tech support number. If it stays On then we can try and perform System recovery, where we can reset the PC back to the factory shipped settings: Here is the link.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Hi @Mudzi,
Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips, Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand the computer is powering on but there's no display on the screen, The computer turns off after a few seconds after it's turned on,
To provide an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
What is the product number of this computer? (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
Have you performed any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?
In the meantime, you perform the below steps:
Perform a hard reset (click here for details)
If the computer still turns off every few seconds, try with an alternate adapter and/or remove the battery and try turning on the computer without the battery,
only connect the adapter and start, let me know if that works.
For more steps, Click here
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Hello Biswajeet!
Thank you for the warm welcome and for the quick answer 🙂
No, that's not the issue. I probably should have phrased my problem better. The computer turns on and works just fine. Sometimes it will work without any problems at all while sometimes it just shuts down (sometimes just minutes after startupl, sometimes hours). At times it just stayes dead untill I turn it back on again while sometimes it reboots on it's own.
Product nr: W7A 38EA # UUW
Operating system: Windows 10 (64 bit)
As for what I have done myself is:
- Disabled auto-restart in system tab in the Control Panel
- Check the BIOS making sure the fans are turned on
- checked the temperature to make sure that the laptop is not overheating (as I mentioned above it stays around 48 degrees)
- Did a scan for any viruses and malware
