Is my notebook UEFI compatible

Good day

I would like to install a 4TB harddisk on my laptop (as the 2nd harddisk), and I understand my BIOS has to be UEFI.

Seems the motherboard is an HP 159B 91.37 / F.1C.

My serial number is CNF1230N1L, and the product number is LS583EA#UUZ

Could you please tell me if this motherboard is UEFI compatible, and if yes, what would be the steps to change to UEFI.

If not, do I have any alternative options ?

I would be very grateful if you could help me. I am running Windows 7 64-bit

Hi,

As you can see on your drivers and software support page there is an update to make the Bios uefi compatible which I would install first:

HP BIOS Update UEFI

2.2.0.0 Rev. A

You can turn Uefi on or off in the BIOS settings and it will add some new futures such as secure boot. Make sure that the 4TB drive is formated in GPT, otherwise it will only be recognized as 2TB.

Thanks for the info David.

Before I try it, the disk where the windows operating system is, is MBR formated. If I change to UEFI, will windows still boot up, would you know ? Question is, would my system come up normally after changing to UEFI.

I believe it will not boot. Reading this morning found technet article how it can be changed wighout loosing data. However I would backup all personal files before trying. Here, take a look at the article:

I would also create recovery disks and if you have win 7 product key, you can download an original copy (iso) of win 7 from Microsoft and use program such as Rufus to create a bootable USB drive.
