I set my laptop to sleep mode earlier today. Some 6 hours later, when attempting to wake it up, it remained nearly completely silent.
Symptoms:
The cooling fan starts and keeps running at normal rate -- when the computer heats slightly, the fan rpm increases.
Screen does not turn on, but rather remains completely unpowered.
CapsLock light is blinking steadily at 3-4 second intervals.
WLAN light is red.
Hard Drive I/O led is dead.
Disk drive is responsive, opens and reads disk on startup.
Power button inoperative - only way to shut pc down is via hard reboot.
Solutions I've tried:
Connecting an external monitor: No success, system state unchanged, monitor remains black
Hard Reset (holding power button down with no power connected): No success, system state unchanged
Inserting Bootable CD on startup: No success, disc drive reads disc, no effects on system
Removing RAM modules: No success, no effect on system operation.
