HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

So until recently my computer had been working fine but just out of the blue it started to get stuck in the startup screen- y'know the one with the HP logo in the Middle and the spinning white circles so I tried to restart it to see if that'd solve my issue and it started up the Preparing Automatic Repair and than it goes to Diagnosing your PC before  bringing me to the Automatic Repair screen I haven't messed with anything on there in fear of making it worse, I'm just afraid that I'll have to reset my PC completely and lose some important data.

Hi,

There are 2 main methods you can try to salvage data from failed drive :
1) Create LiveCD from another computer. Boot from this disc in your laptop, then copy the files from failed HDD to another external hard drive connected to notebook.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD

2) Take out the failed hard drive out. Connect it to another computer using SATA to USB adapter. Use Windows explorer to copy the files you need from HDD to another external hard drive.

Now after copying the data, Tap away F2 or ESC key as soon as you power on laptop to go into System Diagnostics, perform extensive hard drive and memory tests. Let me know the results

If everything PASSED,
Create Windows 8.1 UEFI bootable installation USB using Microsoft windows media creation tool, and do a Repair install as given here:

Okay thank you I managed to get through the test and everything passed except for the Battery Check which said Primary - OK should I proceed to the next steps or wait because of the Battery Check?

Also, I looked through the tutorial and you want me to sign into an account, I don't think I can even do that much unless there is an option to sign in through the Automatic Repair thingie

Did you try repair install with the newly created Windows 8.1 USB image?
