Hello HP Experts,
My wife's laptop recently had a hardrive issue and now it won't boot.
I suspect the harddrive is failing and will need to be replaced. I've tried many of the common tools and processes to fix the drive, but to no avail.
I also tried to access the hardrive using an external enclosure attached to another computer but it can't read the drive.
I suspect this is because she enabled full hard drive encryption using HP Protect Tools.
She has the USB key to unencrypt the drive. And unfortunately she doesn't have a recent backup.
I was going to use HP Recovery to restore it the factory settings but that means she will lose data and files.
But before I try that, is there anyway to mount the drive externally and use the USB key to remove the encryption.
That way I can try to copy off and/or recover her data files before the factory restore.
I was hoping HP might have something like a bootable version of HP Protect Tools that can use the USB key and remove the encryption.
Thanks...
