Hi,


I've forgotten my administrator password for my Compaq CQ 57-202E1 Presario

 

When I try the password that I think it is the system gets locked.  There is no error code displayed, I've seen other users quoting this number to receive an unlock code.

 

How do I unlock the machine?  I've read about removing a CMOS battery - where do I find information about this?

 

Any advice would be gratefully received,

Hi,

 

There are a few causes for a halt code not displaying after 3 incorrect entries, but try the following first.

 

Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. 

 

Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds. 

 

Plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out for the moment ), start the notebook and try entering a incorrect code three times again - do you get a 8 digit halt code now accompanying the 'System Disabled' message?

Thanks!  After I tried your suggestion it's displaying the lockup code:   Code: 84622697 (system disabled)

 

From what I've seen elsewhere it's somehow possible to generate an unlock key from that?
