Laptop fell out of the back of the car and landed on the corner near the USB on the right.  It was in padded bag.  Now when powering on it is stuck at "Press the ESC key for startup Menu" and continuously beeps.  Never stops beeping.  I can hit ESC and get to menus and BIOS.  I can see settings in BIOS.  I ran diagnostics and memory is OK.  Hard Drive is OK.  I pulled the hard drive and connected to desktop as slave drive and was able to read all of the data on it OK.  Any thought on what issue may be?  If I reset BIOS to factory default will I lose anything as far as software licensing etc....?  Please help.

Hi,

You can set the BIOS back to factory default, it will make no change to the software installed on your system.

Try reseating the RAM and see if it helps (removing and reinserting). Try booting up without the hard disk inserted and see if it gives you a message that no boot device has been found.

Do you get any sort of error message on the screen where it lets you choose esc to enter BIOS?

Are th beeps always the same and regular? (short, long, fast, slow or in groups)

Let me know,

David

So pulling the hard drive didn't make a difference.  It did not get there.  The beeps are fast, short and regular.  I reset the BIOS and it is asking about the fingerprint scanner.  The login was either fingerprint or password.  I am not sure whether to accept or reject the reset scanner to factory settings.  Suggestions?

Resetting the BIOS seemed to have fixed the issue.  it is now booting up.  Thank you for your assistance.

Well it is booting up to chk dsk.  I will let that run and see if it fixes the problem, but at least it seemed to have booted.

OK. Let me know how chkdsk works out. At least now we are beyond the bios screen, so there are other things we can try if chkdsk fails.

After the chkdsk it booted up successfully.  The BIOS reset fixed the problem.  Thanks so much!!!
