Used a drive wiping software to wipe the drive and partitions in preparation for recycling. I am original owner of computer, have the windows sticker but no disks came with computer. However, I had a set of recovery disks from the original set up of computer. When I booted with recovery disks I had it do the factory reset. It ran through all 4 recovery disks and then said I needed to restart to complete. However, when I restart it won't boot to windows. All the memory, startup and drive tests pass. I can access the BIOS and tried booting from disk or hardrive and nothing works. If I put disc 1 back in it will let me run through the factory reset but I only get to the black screen of insert bootable device when that process runs. I ran through all the options on the HP support page, such as hard reset, restoring BIOS defaults, etc.

Try prepping the hdd with the Cyberlink Utility cd provided by HP. Download and Save the file. Once download is complete, put a blank cd in your drive and click the file to create a boot cd. Boot with this cd and wait until you get a green check mark indicating hdd is ready. Remove the cd , insert first Recovery Disk and restart the laptop.
