hardware

  • HP Elitebook 8440p
  • 8G
  • 128GSSD
  • 500G HD
  • Linux OS :Mint, Windows 7. Symptoms are the same for both

Symptoms of the stop:

  • Erratic system  stop
  • Blank/black screen
  • fan speeds up
  • does not always hang when playing graphics intensive games.
  • boot sequence:
    • either goes right through and is fine or hangs and does not complete bios/post
    • wait, come back later, hit the power button and sometimes it boots. fiddle with power button and after a while it will boot

System will run for a while and be fine, sometimes just reading email, it will stop, Symptoms of the stop (above).

Diagnostics Performed:

  • Memory test, passed. Swapped out memory with totally different memory, symptoms persist
  • reseated memory, symptoms persist
  • HP Diagnostics run w/o failure

We are looking to purchase another system due the problems diagnosing and solving these problems. We like the system, but time constraints require purchasing another system.
