Operating System: Linux

- HP Elitebook 8440p
- 8G
- 128GSSD
- 500G HD
- Linux OS :Mint, Windows 7. Symptoms are the same for both
Symptoms of the stop:
- Erratic system stop
- Blank/black screen
- fan speeds up
- does not always hang when playing graphics intensive games.
- boot sequence:
- either goes right through and is fine or hangs and does not complete bios/post
- wait, come back later, hit the power button and sometimes it boots. fiddle with power button and after a while it will boot
System will run for a while and be fine, sometimes just reading email, it will stop, Symptoms of the stop (above).
Diagnostics Performed:
- Memory test, passed. Swapped out memory with totally different memory, symptoms persist
- reseated memory, symptoms persist
- HP Diagnostics run w/o failure
We are looking to purchase another system due the problems diagnosing and solving these problems. We like the system, but time constraints require purchasing another system.
