Hp Spectre X360 13-4002dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased a HP Spectre X360 13-4002dx laptop July of 2015 because, at that time, it was a top of the line laptop.  This morning, I saw that it was displaying a battery is low dialog, which is unusual since the charger cord was currently plugged into it.  In an attempt to troubleshoot it, and thinking it might have been some windows update that caused it, I shut down the machine and waited 10 seconds, then pressed the power button to start it back up. But, upon pressing the power button, the computer emitted multiple pops and crackles, and smoke poured out of the side vent.  I was, to say the least, shocked, as this laptop has never once moved from the table it calls its home and has been pampered the entire time I’ve owned it. Upon reading these forums, I’ve since learned that there are numerous people who have had this exact issue, claiming it is capacitors that have violently exploded inside.  It is not under any warranty that I’m aware of since I believe HP only offers a 1-year warranty, but to have this type of problem happening so much based upon my investigations of other's complaints, i would think that HP would realize that there is a system defect here and do something about it such as a recall.  What am I to do??? I expected this awesome work of electronic art to last me for at least 7 years or so, and have never had any issues with past HP equipment, but this leaves me worried.  Is there anything I can do to get this fixed, replaced, repaired, that isn't going to cost me a fortune to the point where I’d be better off purchasing a new laptop altogether?

Wow! Thank you HP.  I received an almost immediate response to my inquiry, and HP walked me through a step by step process to determine what issues i was having.  Once they verified that I had a legitimate problem and did not do anything stupid to cause it on my own, they were more than helpful in having my laptop sent off for inspection and repair.  Thank you again HP for having excellent customer service and standing by your products!
