HP-Compaq 6715s

Hi,

I have an old HP 6715s that I really like and is fully functional. I'm thinking of upgrading it to 8 GB RAM. According to its specifications, it doesn't seem to be officially supported, but recently I replaced the original AMD Sempron 3600+ CPU with an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-64. I went to a local PC store and tried a noname 4 GB DDR2 PC-6400S (800MHz) module with a Hynix 2 GB PC-5300S (667MHz) and they worked together. The computer booted up without errors and the 6 GB RAM was usable to all operating systems installed (Win7, Debian Linux). So what I can confirm is that it supports more than 4 GB.

However, I also tried some other Hynix PC-6400S 2 GB modules that did not work. The computer didn't even boot. So I suppose, not all 800 MHz RAM modules can underclock themselves to 667 MHz which is the highest memory frequency 6715s supports.

I read about Samsung M4 70T5267AZ3-CF7 which is a 800MHz 4GB module and with two of that I could upgrade to 8 GB. However, before I order those modules I would like to know that it works at 667 MHz and is stable with HP-Compaq 67XX notebook series. If anyone has experience with this type, please reply. I also appreciate other types or brands of modules that would successfully work with this configuration.

Thanks in advance,
Pal
