Hi,

Just over a week ago I went out and got myself a HP Pavilion 15-e092ea laptop.

It's a brilliant machine and I'm really pleased with it however there is just one small thing that has sprung up.

As I'm sure many of you will know, Pavilion series laptops have a handy mute key which doubles as the F6 key. On that key is a small LED which illuminates when pressed to show that the computer is muted.  Up until yesterday that light was working fine until something came up on the screen mentioning a BIOS update. I went ahead with the update and everything seemed fine. I then discovered that the LED wasn't illuminated when I used the key to mute the computer.

I've tried reinstalling audio drivers and restarting the computer a few times after reading some information on forums but nothing is working. The key still works perfectly but considering the computer is pretty new I would like to just sort the problem out. I would take it to a repair place but it's too minor and the pricing would not be fair in the slightest.

The Caps Lock, Power Button and Wireless/Flight Mode LED lights work, it's just that Mute Key one that will not illuminate. As I've said, it's a minor thing but I would be nice just to have it working again.

I'm running Windows 8.1 if that is of any help.

Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem? Could the BIOS update have affected it at all?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Thanks for your reply.

I actually managed to get the light working again after reinstalling an audio driver using HP Recovery Manager.

I had tried reinstalling the driver through the Windows Device Manager however this had not worked.

As soon as I used the Recovery Manager the amber light was illuminating once again.

Thanks for your help.

Hello joshy6001,

The BIOS update could most likely have caused the light to stop working, as this was the last thing done prior to the light not working. I would suggest restoring your BIOS back to the previous version to make sure. I have included the document 'Restoring the BIOS'. Please follow through the steps in order, and let me know if the light comes back on after the restore.

Thank you.

I had the same problem and tried the HP Recovery after reading recommendations and this did not fix it.

I updated the driver software with no success but read that someone uninstalled the audio devices and switched the laptop off, which fixed the problem.   I also did this, switched on my laptop and now it works - Windows will reinstall the devices as it is part of the main components in the laptop.

I prefer the mute key to be illuminated, also indicates the laptop is completely off without looking at the power lights on the side of the machine.
