Product name: HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 PC

Product number: C6N92UA#ABA

Windows 8.1 64-bit

Oddly few days ago while listening to music, I went to press the pause/play button which is key f7 and it didn't work when it did before. All the other keys work on the keyboard except for the ones that control music i.e. multimedia keys. I did a hard reset, made sure I have the updated BIOS and still nothing. Laptop is out of warranty for a month, hoping this can be easily fixed by updating a file.

Has anyone else had this issue? No liquid was spilled on the laptop, happened once and HP had to fix it last year, Windows is also up to date as well.

Please help!

Hi,

Download and reinstall HP Quick Launch software from the link below.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58626.exe

When the re-installation has completed, restart the notebook before checking if the multimedia keys function correctly.

I reinstalled it, and then checked to see if they work, and they still don't.

Any other possible solutions?

Hi,

Try the following.

Open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP QuickPlay Software and select Uninstall.

When complete, restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, download and install HP System Event Utility on the following link.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66501-67000/sp66604.exe

When the installation has completed, restart the notebok once more before checking.

Thanks, did the following, uninstalled the HP Quick Launch...restarted the laptop...downloaded and installed the file you gave, restarted  and the keys still don't work.

When I pressed the Play button and I thought it was going to work cause around the mouse it was thinking but sadly, the multimedia keys still don't work.

Hi,

Try resetting the bios defaults as follows.

Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu, then select f10 to enter the Bios Menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

Best regards,

Changed the BIOS setup like you said...nothing changed. What can cause the keys to respond anymore? This is so odd only three keys stopped working.

Is there any other options to fixing it?

Thank you so much for helping me, greatly appreciate it!! :generic:

Hey, so I had the same problem, and it was because I had my iPhone connected to my PC when I was trying to access my music that wasn't through iTunes.  So whenever you would press Rewind, Pause, Play, etc. it would try to do what I wanted to do on the iTunes window that was open!!

Hope that helped!
