HP Elitebook 8540w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello folks,

I have an HP Elitebook 8540w laptop which serves me well, except for one thing: bluetooth. This laptop has bluetooth 2.1+EDR out of the box. The project is to get to bluetooth 4.0 (or, at the minimum, to bluetooth 3.0) and the question is how.

The bluetooth board is easily accessible by removing a small plastic cover on the front of the laptop (one screw). The board has BCM92070md on it (I can enclose a photo).

1. From my initial research, it seems that 4.0 cannot be reached via driver update, but  3.0 can be.

Can somebody confirm  (or deny) this and if affirmative, point me to a download location for a driver?

2. Is it possible to replace the (easily accessible) bluetooth board for bluetooth 4.0? If yes, what are the specifications of such board?

3.  A little puzzle (for me, at least): the Elitebook model 8470p has bluetooth 4.0 (confirm or deny) and it seems that the bluetooth board is the same BCM92070md. How come this has 4.0? Is there some other hardware involved in the bluetooth operation (on top of the antennae, of course)?

Thnaks for your time.
