Constant crashing, memory dump

No worries. I have extracted 1 memory module and it doesn't hang. Put in the other one and it hangs right at start up. Tested it 3 times to make sure it was that memory module. Not sure how long I have left before this module hangs (if it does). I swear i tested both pieces before but it seems to be working so far.

I'll select a sollution for now but I might make a thread soon if the problem comes back.

I'm glad that may have fixed the problem for you.

I know that my method is a rather non technical way of going about things, but sometimes the diagnostics and other tools indicate no problems, and you have to try different things.

Sometimes a semi-faulty memory chip can wreck havoc with your PC, and your mind.

I once had a Dell Dimension 4700 that someone gave me because it would just freeze and crash.

So the first thing I did was order Dell recovery disks for it and ran into issues.

It would go so far and crash, go so far and freeze, go so far and blue screen...

I didn't know what to do, so just for kicks, I removed and reseated the two memory chips. That did not help.

Then I decided to remove one of the 2 chips. Same thing, go so far, and freeze/crash.

Never got any memory errors, and the BIOS reported the full amount installed.

Then I removed that chip and put the other one in. Installation went smooth a silk!

I wanted to run that defective memory chip thru a shredder!

So, now armed with the fact that it was just a faulty memory module, I bought 4 x 1 GB chips, maxing it out to 4 GB, gave it to a friend, and two years later, it is still working like a champ.

I hope yours stays fixed and if it does, just buy a new memory module for the PC to bring the memory back to specs.
