I haven't tried the system restore... Rather, if the keyboard gets really bad, I log off and then log back in. In severe cases, I re-boot. Usually, logging off and then back on does the trick though. This seems to be a reoccuring problem for many people it seems; I hope HP researches this more for future products.

When I have this issue it is instant, like I hit a certain combination of keys as others have described. When it happens it seems to be for everything. A few keys work, like the windows key, and others do unexpected things, but most do not work at all. Reboot is the solution, but it can be frustrating if I am in the middle of something.
Please HP, what is the fix? I need to know what keys to hit to undo it.

I am having the same problem. I have the same laptop, just purchased. No one has answered the op's question. I keep hitting a key on the keyboard that keeps locking the keyboard. But I don't know which key it is or how to unlock it. I think it's the backspace key. I use it a lot. I know we can't be the only 2 people having this issue. Why is it happening? How can I unlock it without 'restarting.?' and why isn't this addressed in user guidelines? I don't want this to keep happening. So far I haven't lost any data, but eventually it will happen if I don't know which key is starting the problem and how to undo it . Also, I don't see why it's recommended to do a 'restore.' If I power down the keyboard starts working again. So which key is causing the problem?

I have had the same problem. I couldn't tell you why it happens but I found that if you quickly press the ctrl key a few times when this happens it usually clears the problem up without having to restart as I used to do that as well.

HP Help Desk offered these suggestions. I tried the first and waited and it locked up. So I tried the BIOS update and am waiting for a lockup. Hopefully it won't happen.
- Uninstall and reinstall Keyboard driver
- BIOS Update
Uninstall and reinstall Keyboard driver
In order to uninstall the keyboard driver please follow the steps below:
1. Click on start and type device manager in start search box
2. Now select device manager
3. In device manager, right click on keyboards
4. Select the keyboard drive and uninstall it.
To reinstall the keyboard driver please restart the notebook.
If the issue still persists then please do the steps below.
BIOS Update
Please follow the link below to update the BIOS.
