my notebook EliteBook 8440p just wont boot up .I get the HP logo and the instruction to press esc

My Notebook  type HP Elite Book 8440p won't start up. I get the HP logo and the instruction to press esc to acces the start memory. I have tried the startup test and the Run-in test and both have failed ,Has anyone any ideas?

Hi,

Try the following to see if it gives a better indication of what has failed.

Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

Hi,

 I have run the Start-up and Run in test which have both failed , I have also attempted the Hard Disk test which also failed and had the following message attached . Test1(Quick) Error read failure,read failure

It would look like the Hard Drive has failed.

If your notebook is still under warranty, you should contact HP and arrange to have the Hard Drive replaced.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing this yourself ( it's a very straight forward process ), please let me know - include the capacity of the HDD you currently have.

I have the same problem with my elitebook 8440p. When starting it up it goes to a blank screen with a flashing cursor in the top lefthand corner. I have ran the start up test, run-in test and hard disk test which all failed and says disk not installed.

I hope you can help.
