HP 15 TS Notebook PC

I need help. For some reason, my laptop computer charger has stopped working. I own an HP 15 TS Notebook PC, and I'm not sure about its operating system, but it's a touch-screen PC device, and I have had it for two years now. However, just recently, I have noticed that my charger would act a little strange. Most of the time, whenever I charge my computer, I would usually wait for the computer to pronounce that it is 100% charged before I can take out the charger. However, it seems to be doing just the opposite of that right now. I know that it's supposed to say 100%, and let me know when it's plugged in and still charging, but right now, whenever it reaches a certain percentage---let's say, 90%---after a while, it would say that it's plugged in, but it is no longer charging.

I want to know why this is. Why is it that whenever my computer reaches the 90%, that it will automatically stop charging? Most of the time, it's always charging until it reaches the full 100%. Now I always have to take out the charger after it reads, 90-93%, because it would say "not charging." Is there a problem with my computer charger? Should I get my charger examined, or at least go out and buy a new one? What can I do to solve this problem and ensure that my computer will always reach the full 100% charging before I can take it out?

Please help. Thanks a lot.

A very warm welcome to the HP community. A very good day to you.

I understand that you have an HP laptop. I read that the battery would show as 100% charges earlier.  But now, the battery charges till 90% and then shows a message as plugged in and not charging. Not to worry, I'll surely assist you with this case.

The evidence indicates that it might not be an issue with the ac adapter. There is something else causing this. Because if the ac adapter was bad then it would not charge the battery till 90%.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • If your laptop has a removable battery then take it out and let the laptop power on using only the ac adapter only. If the laptop works well with the ac adapter only then it indicates that there is no issue with the ac adapter.

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated, then do not remove it out.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

Now, you may continue with the below steps:

  • Unplug the charger and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
  • Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
  • Uninstall the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery from the device manager. It will be listed under the battery option.
  • Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

If the issue persists then I suggest you to perform the steps as described in detail from this link. These steps are known to fix such battery charging related issues.

I hope this information helps. Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

Mkazi, I have another question:

What is the AC adapter, and how does it work?

Thanks.

@Angel_114

You're most welcome. 🙂

The ac adapter is the power supply connector to the laptop. It mostly looks as shown in the below image:

The AC power adapter is used to recharge the battery in a notebook computer and to provide dependable power for operating the notebook for long periods of time. If an AC power adapter fails, it will not recharge the battery and it will not provide power to operate the notebook without a battery. Detailed information on using and testing ac adapters is available here.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. Take care! 🙂
