I received a error message 90B I think that my cooling fan was malfunctioning. I followed a suggestion to update my BIOS, it went to do a restart after the BIOS did its thing, and now it's a black screen. The power button is lit up, and I'm unable to turn it off by holding the power button down. The fans are still not working, so I need to power it down by taking the battery out. I have tried about everything on the help forum and nothing seems to work. Help

Hi @Ladywitt,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! Smiley Happy Good day.  I read your post about the fan 90b error and the subsequent bios update that does not make the computer boot. I will be delighted to assist you here. Smiley Happy

Stupendous diagnosis and spectacular analysis of the issue before posting.  Kudos to you on that score. It is always a privilege to work with technical specialists like you. Smiley Happy

We greatly value your relationship with HP. You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. Smiley Happy

First off, for better clarity and to assist you better, I would require more information regarding this:

  • Please provide the complete model# of the unit.

For now please roll back the bios by performing the steps from this document: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833

Please try both the options given in the link. That should do the trick for you.

Once the computer is up and running, please contact HP phone support for the 90b error to get the unit serviced as it is a hardware issue with the computer. To do this please follow these steps:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty will take care of repair services for you.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Smiley Happy  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. Smiley Happy

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. Smiley Happy

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. Smiley Happy
