Pavilion g7-2335dx
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I am struggling with knowing which Drivers are the newer, or if the newer are even desired for this laptop.

I have the AMD Stuff all taken care of except for one Optional Update that came through that I did not recognize.

Update type: Optional

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2 software update released in September, 2012

More information:
http://sysdev.microsoft.com/support/default.aspx

Help and Support:
http://support.microsoft.com/select/?target=hub

Already did some of the less important ones like:

Synaptics

Realtek Card Reader Driver

Also, not sure which one of these Drivers below are newer, and that would be important to me, or as asked above, more appropriate for this pc.

8.1.510.2013:  Realtek PCIe Family Controller is the one M.S. Loaded

8.3.730.2012:  Is the one that is at the HP Link for this computer: sp58496 as seen on the actual driver from HP.

Can someone tell me which of the above is newer, is the last number the Year? 2012 or 2013? and which one would you guys go with? newer or older.  If that is not the Year, then is the first numbers 8.3 the newere one?

These below have not been done yet, same questions as above.

Qualcomm Atheros QCA9000 Series Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Window:

Would like to do this one also, but will likely run into the same issues.  This one has completely different numbers from the one M.S. Loaded and the one HP has for a download: 1.00 Rev.A

HP UEFI Support Environment:

I assume this is installed as a Program into Programs and Features?

Thanks, pcpunk

I would use HP support page for your model to download latest version available:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-g7-2200-Notebook-PC-series/5296086/model...

This is the latest Realtek LAN driver version listed:
8.3.730.2012, sp58496.exe, Sept 07, 2012

Hi,

You need latest version (higher number, recent date)

You ought to download only HP driver updates, not from MS

If you've Intel/AMD switchable graphics, I would not update graphics at all.

You contradict yourself?  You say use latest version, then you say "only HP driver updates, not from MS"...well...the newer version looks to be from MS, and, I did not download them, they installed auto during installation?

I never said anything about "switchable graphics"

This was not very helpful visruth.  Someone with over 9000 posts and 1145 Solutions etc. I would think you would give better info.  I come here because I know I can get good help, and am a HP Diehard user.  I could have Googled and got better than this, and from an "expert"

Hi @pcpunk ,

I could give you better answer but the model name you posted is not coming up with any results. So I can only be generic

Post your product number. That would be better.
http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00033108

If I know what hardware you're having, then I can help you in giving you better directions checking with the HP driver page

Hope you're aware that this is not official HP technical support

HP maintains no official presence here

All the members helping here are end users just like you.

And you also can become an expert, see this:
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Welcome-to-the-HP-Expert-Program/How-do-I-become-an-HP-Expert/ba-p/2837...

First, I'm not contradicting anything I said. Read my post carefully.

You are better off with HP drivers alone because they're the ones tested by HP for your model

In HP support page for your model, download - the latest driver, as I mentioned in my first post

I didn't say anything about Microsoft drivers. I'll not install them at all.
You may want to disable auto update:
https://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5794-windows-update-automatic-updating-turn-off-windows-8-a.ht...

Now about graphics as you mentioned AMD, since your model name didn't give back in any valid results - I can only suggest you download any updated driver from your HP support page only. If your model has switchable graphics like mine, then this becomes one more step ahead - i.e., I wouldn't update the graphic driver at all. I'll stay with the factory driver.

visruth, I think those questions were very generic, and the model would not matter in this case for at least some of those questions.

It is a bit unusual my laptop did not come up when I tried it also.  Here it is:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-g7-2200-Notebook-PC-series/5296086/model/5317028/mor...

You still did not answer if the last digits were the Year? 2012 or 2013 or anything else for that matter.

I won't keep disputing the rest because there may be a language barrier here.  I do very much appreciate you time though and hope to learn more from you if possible.

I agree about M.S. Drivers, but they are installed by default.  I do have Auto Update OFF, but I think these come with the Retail Image or something?

I do agree with only using the HP Drivers, but if MS is installing them, they work, and are newer, then should I really install the older ones?

Either way, I just want my system to work as good as possible, and to learn as much as possible about my system along the way.

Hi,

Your laptop is HP Pavilion g7-2235dx Notebook PC, but it is given wrongly as Pavilion g7-2335dx in the thread subject.

Exact model name determines what type of graphic system you've. If it is switchable graphics that I had pointed out in my first post, then I would not suggest you to update driver at all from anywhere.

Driver updates come as optional updates via Windows Update if that is what you're asking. And it will not come built-in Windows ISO. I'll not update driver through Windows Updates, had bad experiences only.

https://www.howtogeek.com/233115/the-only-way-to-safely-update-your-hardware-drivers-on-windows/

As far as Microsoft numbering of driver version is concerned, I am not sure of it. I wouldn't

If it is HP driver, I'll go for higher spxxxx.

Yes, I got the model wrong, my bad.

Thanks on the Graphics driver advice.

After the Retail Image install, I already had the drivers shown in first Post but cannot see them now and it is too much work to go back to look at all my notes again.  They were the Realtek PCIe Family Controller Drivers that I asked about and still don't know the answer exactly?

Sorry ran out of time for now
