Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I would like to reinstall win 7 64 bit on my pavilion laptop, without loosing my license key.

[Personal Information Removed] is the serial number of my Laptop.

I bought the laptop in Us, 01/14/2012, Charleston and I still have the original receipt on me. I live in Hungary.

I want to get the right reinstall medium for my win 7 home premium oa.

I contacted to microsoft support, and they sent me this home premium sp1 english x64 iso and told me, to contact HP, because I have to make sure, that Hp supports the reinstall, I have to find out, how many times I can reinstall my OS, as it can be limited by HP.

Also I have a plan to replace my hdd soon, to avoid the old hdd to cause problems by it's natural amortisation.

Further details: I could not register the laptop, as I bought it one year, before the available chooseable years on the registrating page,

so

I could not contact with the chat support,

that's why I take the question here.

I could not redeem the media from HP Support - Order software and driver media here, as the different purchase and delivery address can be a problem, I think.

As I bought the laptop in USA, but live in hungary, I did not wanted to have problems with the product registration's home address, and purchase address, and etc...

It would be great to just download the right iso from a link,  so I could manage to reinstall the os, without waiting for the disk.

Or if the windows-provided windows 7 iso is good, and I will not loose the license of my windows, that is also a good option.

Or anything else, that can make the reinstallation on the right way.

Hello,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome onboard !

I just checked and it works - you can purchase recovery media using the following URL from here >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dm4-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/514...

Prices is 25 USD - it is 3 DVDs but the issues is that the system only offers US shipping addresses. Since you are ouside of the States this could be a problem.

I also checked that it is available from a 3rd party site which might be able to ship outside USA   >> http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-22105-windows-7-64b-recovery-kit-669481-001-for-hp-pavilion-entert...

If you want to have a recovery media from HP, I'd suggest you contact HP support, explain the situation and check if they can ship the recovery media to Hungary. You can check with the support for Hungary >> http://www8.hp.com/hu/hu/contact-hp/phone-assist.html

Another option which will probably work now on the existing HDD :

Every HP computer that has Windows preinstalled comes with recovery partitions which can be used to reinstall Windows to factory default condition. This is called HP recovery process. If the partitions are still there and intact they will do the trick for you and you'll be able to recover now. Here is how to perform recovery >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01867418

Basically - restart the computer and as soon as it start booting keep hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap) to enter the HP boot menu. Choose F11 - recovery and follow the on-screen instructions.  Do back up your data prior to recovery.

In case you decide to replace the HDD with new one or with an SSD, then you can image the previous drive and transfer the image to the new one using free software like Clonezilla >>  www.clonezilla.org

Please, let me know how it goes.

It works well, IT_WinSec.

Thank you for the speedy and in-detailed answer.

I made the recovery, from the startup. (Esc press, then choose recovery)

I did not need the dvd-s.

The process is fully automatized, I got back the original factory settings.

On my desktop pc (which is not hp), I always used the ghost to save and to restore system partition. That was more difficult, than this laptop, this recovery option makes the life easy.

Now I installed the programs on the virgin operating system, set the settings, refresh virus defs, virus scans, tuned the web browsers.

Made a checkdisk, delete temp files, than defragmentation, adjust startup at msconfig.

Created a whitelist of the good, original systemfiles, for the anti spyware program.

I make a rescue disc of the new system, and I'm good for the moment.

Thank you, Prof, and all the best for the Team.

Sincerely: AndyPavilion
