Hi @EdR59,

Welcome to the HP Forum! 🙂 It is a terrific place to find answers and tips! For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide. First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. What is your precise model of  Envy M6 do you have? HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number, Serial Number or Product Number?

I see that you think a BIOS update deleted your files. I do not believe that was the cause as the BIOS (basic input output system) handles everything from the time to the computer is turned on until the HP logo appears. Have you tried a hard reset? HP Notebook PCs - Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset Have you checked the recycle bin for your files? Have you checked for viruses and malware? Have you backed up your files? If your files are missing and you did not back them up, you can look a data recovery. If you check under c:/users/usernames is there more than one user listed?  Please let me know how it goes.
