Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

Since about four days ago, my laptop has started randomly restarting.

(I turn on laptop, use for anywhere between 10 minutes and two hours with varying periods of inactivity = suddenly restarts)

No error message on restart. You notice from the red-cross ethernet icon that the internet is down (Ethernet and wifi have also disappeared from network connections).

Event log shows:

Event 41, Kernel-Power:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

A clean reboot, and the wifi adapter returns and it’s business as usual until the next unexpected shutdown.

------

I have tried the following:

Update BIOS

Update network adapter driver

Clean vents

Unticked automatic restart in start-up and recovery

-----

Windows 10 home 10.0.14

HP Pavilion 15 Notebook

Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter

Thanks in advance

Hi @Kamkamkamstein,

Thanks for the update, I really appreciate your time and efforts,

I understand that after windows 10 update (Originally windows 8 I think), you cannot rollback (it has been a month and the option greyed out in recovery panel). Is this correct? Answering to your question, Yes, you won't be able to roll back after 30 days. So only option, would be to perform system recovery which will set your PC back to the original factory conditions.

Can I install windows 7 via USB ISO and would you recommend again it for any reason?  Yes, you can install Windows 7, If it's retail version and if there is any issues you might have to contact Micrsoft tech support for any help. We would be able to provide support only if it's a OEM version.

I hope this answers your question, please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Hi @Kamkamkamstein,

As I understand you are having issues with the notebook restarting randomly, don't worry, we'll work together to find a solution for you,

Let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset

Update the Bios

Run the System Diagnostics test from F2

Run the extensive test on the hard drive as well as on Memory from F2 under component test

For more details, please click here

Depending on the test results, If the all the test passes, I would suggest you perform a system recovery which would set the computer back to the original factory condition. Doing this will wipe off everything. If this option fails, which means that the partition is corrupted or system file is missing.

The only other way to install Windows would be to order the recovery media for your laptop and using the recovery media you can install Windows. You can check if the recovery media is available online on www.hp.com/drivers by entering the exact model no. of your laptop. To find the exact model no. click here: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

Otherwise, you could also reach HP phone support to order the recovery media. Please fill in the product details to get the tech support number.

Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone numberCase number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

Keep me posted for any other assistance,

Okay Biswajeet

System Diagnostics test from F2 :

no issues found

Run the extensive test on the hard drive as well as on Memory from F2 under component test:

no issues found

Update BIOS:

already done

Hard reset:

system looks normal. On first two boots. I will monitor it.

---- as an aside ----

Also tried:

Reset windows 10:

Reset failed, upon boot found no icons, start menu not working, error message "(path/)Desktop not found".

No way to access file explorer.

Reboot resumed current build, no changes made.

---another aside -----

Jeet, I understand that after windows 10 update (Originally windows 8 I think), you cannot rollback (it has been a month and the option greyed out in recovery panel). Is this correct? Windows 7 was perfect for me, rarely an issue. Windows 10 seems so riddled with bugs (internet adapter fails, boot up twice, mass memo leakage) there's rarely a time I'm not trying to fix this thing. Can I install windows 7 via USB ISO and would you recommend again it for any reason?

Thanks

Kam
