Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I need help recovering my computer to the original factory condition.  My hard drive was wiped clean and I have no recovery disk.  Would anyone know where to dowload it or order it from?  It is not availbe from HP anymore.

Thanks for any help.

Hi:

Microsoft does not allow for the download of OEM operating systems.

That is why PC manufacturers have to provide physical media for recovery of the operating system.

You can only download Windows 7 if you have a retail version product key and the key on your notebook is an OEM product key.

As Huffer pointed out, HP no longer sells recovery media for your model.

However you can still get a set from this non-HP vendor at the link below.

They are not cheap, but I doubt you would be able to find a full version of W7 Home Premium for any less than double that price.

HP no longer has Windows 7 recovery disks in stock. There are 3rd party sites that sell HP recovery disks or there are mirrors out there of the old Microsoft Digital River site where you could download an OEM copy of any version of Windows 7. What did you have? Home Premium 64 bit would be my guess but it could be Pro. Is your Key Code still legible on the sticker?

I have home premium and I can read the product key.

My Windows came preinstalled though, so I'd probably have to purchase a new version of Windows - no?  Also I would have to install all other software/drivers to make the computer work - is that correct?

Microsoft used to make available for download disk image (.iso) files of all versions of Windows 7 including preinstalled (OEM) versions. They shut down that site over a year ago. There are reputable overseas mirrors of those old downloads. @Paul_Tikkanen is correct. Using the downloads from a mirror site is sketchy and Microsoft does not endorse it. Some of the Experts here do provide the links with warnings that you are on your own with them.

The safe thing to do is to find the least expensive set of recovery disks you can. $27US on the link Paul provided is actually not too bad. Legitimate Windows 7 OEM disks are also coming down in price and you can find online delivery software vendors who will sell it to you for maybe $50-100. The recovery disk includes all drivers and original software. It would return the laptop to an out of box state. An OEM Windows 7 disk would require drivers, etc. to make a workable install but those can be downloaded on this website.

Let us know what you want to do. We will help as much as possible.

I will be ordering the recovery disks mentioned.  I agree, the price isn't bad.  Thank you both for such great help! I really do appreciate it!!!
