Pavilion 17in
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have a 17in HP pavilion that does not have a lot of additional software on it, but it running extremely slow.  I am using Windows 10.  I am really frustrated with this performance. It took me over an hour to do a PowerPoint that would normally take me 15 minutes. It takes about 3 minutes to load a website, if not longer, and it just does not respond to any que quickly. Can this be fixed, because I am really upset with this. I have had this happen now 4-5 times with HP, and I am very close to just buying a Mac.

I tried to look up my product name, but the computer won't load in enough time for me to even find it.

Hi @brittany22,

Welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts. and other support personnel.  I  Understand you are having a slow performance issue on you HP PC. I'd be glad to assist you.

There’s a variety of steps you can take to improve performance on your computer and make it run faster. First off, I would recommend checking your hard drive space – you should have at least 15% free space available, preferably more for best performance. If you have a lot of large media files (movies, photos, music) stored on your hard drive, moving those to an external hard drive can help speed things up.  Also, empty your recycle bin to free up space. Here are some other tips:

  • Update software and drivers using HP Support Assistant and Windows Update
  • Update the BIOS
  • Defragment the hard drive (do NOT defrag if your computer has a solid-state drive [SSD], because this can damage it)
  • Run a virus scan and remove viruses/spyware
  • Close any apps you aren’t actively using, and try not to leave a lot of things open at once
  • Use Task Manager to identify what is using the most system resources
  • Clean the computer fans and vents to reduce heat
  • Upgrade memory

Try reviewing the support document for Computer Is Slow - Windows 10, using this link: http://hp.care/2bFDPcU

Let me know how it goes.
