Hello @Brittanyste
Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.
Here are some instructions with options to access the data stored on the HDD - no guarantee it will work:
You will need :
- either 1 empty/blank USB thumb drive OR 1 empty/blank DVD disk
- Linux based operating system - free to download - e.g. Ubuntu or Linux Mint
- additional USB device or Internet storage to copy the files to
You can directly download Ubuntu Desktop from Ubuntu's web site:
Download the x64 ISO > https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop
Once ready, you need to write the ISO to make a bootable media (e.g. bootable DVD or USB drive). Here is how:
* How to create bootable ISO on USB device >> http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows
or
* How to write ISO to DVD >> http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/burn-a-dvd-on-windows
When ready with the USB drive or with the DVD:
* Please, shutdown the computer using the power button.
Insert the Ubuntu USB thumdrive or the Ubuntu DVD prepared previously
Power on the PC.
As soon as you press the power-on button, begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).
This should open a HP Startup Menu which may look similar to this one
Choose F9 to open Boot options (or the respective F option for bootable options) .
Select the thumb drive as boot option or the DVD as a bootable option.
Follow the on-screen instructions to run Ubuntu (not install it but try it).
Ubuntu should load after a while.
You can try to see if it will be able to mount your existing HDD. It should do so automatically.
If possible, you may be able to browse your files and copy what is necessary to a online Cloud storage service or to another device.
Hope this helps.

I would like to see if my laptop can be fixed and if so would it be worth It or should I just get a new one. Two weeks ago i turned on my laptop and a blue error screen came up saying that it was trying to repair but the screen never changed now it shows a ntfs error. Is it possible to get all my files off it it's not repairable what are my options?
With regards to your problem - this is known as Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). BSOD is kind of Windows self-protection feature. If you received a blue screen error, or stop code, the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from data loss.
A hardware device, its driver, or related software might have caused this error.
Specifically - what you describe could happen because of HDD problem or because of file system problem.
In order to troubleshoot, I would need some specific information.
First - information
What exactly is the error message ?
What is your HP computer model and specific product number (PN) - PN, not serial number. Here is how to find it > https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108
Do you run Windows 7 ?
Have you performed some changes recently or before the issue started ?
Second - test your hardware for issues
1. Please, shutdown the computer using the power button
2. Power it on.
2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, start hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).
This should open a HP Startup Menu
3. Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics (or the respective F option).
Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.
If there is no System test, perform the run in test or component test to check the hard disk drive (HDD).
Let me know the results.
Looking forward to your feedback/update.

Hello,
Thank you for the provided information.
I checked the failure code and it indicates hardware problem - hard disk failure.
Since this is faulty HDD, you will probably not be able to recover your files (you could give it a try, though).
Your options:
As your computer is with warranty period expired, you will need to replace the faulty HDD - buy it on your own.
There are variety of options - vendors you can choose from. You can get it online or from PC retail store, or from HP parts store http://partsurfer.hp.com/
You can also consider installing SSD instead of HDD - this is strongly recommended as SSDs are way faster, more repliable and lighter. More info on SSDs:
>> http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2404258,00.asp
You need HDD or SSD with the very same size as the current one or bigger (small will not work) - e.g. if your current HDD is with 500 GB capacity, your new HDD/SDD must also be 500 GB or with bigger capacity.
I see your current one should be 320 GB, therefore your new one must be 320 GB or 500 GB, ot 1 TB. If you decide to go with HDD (not SSD), do get one that is 7200 RPM (5400 RPM as slower)
How to replace the faulty HDD with new HDD or new SSD:
Please, find info and instruction in your computer's manual or watch YouTube videos examples for your HP model.
Service and maintenance guide for your model >> http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02948186
(page 46/54)
If you do not want to do this on your own, please bring the computer (or ship it) to HP Authorized Service Center where the technicians will do this for you. If you are not sure where such a center is located, check these or contact HP for assistance in finding the nearest one for you:

>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/store-finder/find.do?bs=SR4&type=authorized
Last part - once you replace the faulty component - you will need to reinstall back your operating system - Windows or another. So,
As your computer originally came with Windows preinstalled by HP (a.k.a. OEM Windows), then you need to use HP recovery media - DVDs or USB pen drive you have previously created or recovery media purchased from HP. Some general info >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00006110
Your model needs this recovery media >> http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-22095-windows-7-64b-recovery-kit-667580-001-for-compaq-presario-no...
You can purchase it from this 3rd party reputable reseller company. Once you receive the kit, you need to boot from the first DVD disc. Here are details >> http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=HPSystemRecovery.net&as=true§ion=ccweb&SFS=tdoc&language...
Please, let me know how it goes and do post back if you need assistance. Looking forward to your feeback/reply.
