Laptop has been slow and locking up. Decided to reset to factory settings. Everything looked fine, was at 32% when it went to black screen with the little dots spinning around showing it was working. 12 hours later still black screen with spinning dots???
Does it really take this long?

Hello @ShellyWing
If your PC was upgraded from previous Windows version or older build, it is known issue that this operation may have corrupted the recovery partition, therefore your inability to complete the restore.
However, it may also appear due to other software reasons or due to faulty hardware.
- Let me know if your PC previously had older version of Windows (e.g. 7 or 😎 ?
If you used previous Win version, do you prefer Win 10 or your older Win version ?
- please, perform some basic hardware checks
1. Please, shutdown the computer using the power button
2. Power it on.
2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).
This should open a HP Startup Menu
3. Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.
This will check major hardware componets for issue (do it just in case) . Here is more info >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JXUp43ahHA
If there are no system checks/no quick tests, perform HDD and RAM check.
Let me know the test results.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.
