I was trying to delete photos from a Micro sd card using the Mcaffe shedder. The sd card was the E drive and when I looked down at my screen, it was showing the C-drive, so I hit cancel shredd and it said some thing was deleted. Now my computer seems different. My subcription to mcaffe is done and I already uninstalled the program. How do I see if anything important was deleted? Is the windows defender enough protection?

Windows Defender is one of the best performance wise (light and fast) , and is mediocore protection wise.

If I were you, I would add these to suplement the Windows Defender protection:

- Zemana AntiMalware (includes real-time protection that can co-work with WD) >> https://www.zemana.com/Antimalware  (effective and cheap)

- Autorun Eater - free protection from threats that spread via removable media (USB, cards, etc)

- free browser add-ons to block unwanted pop-ups, ads and malware protection

>> Ublock Origin  ,  Disconnect.Me

- TinyWall - free suplement to the Windows Firewall (requires a bit advanced knowledge)

Re. file schreding, you do not need it if your hard disk drive is encrypted - free built-in full disk encryption is BitLocker (Win 10 Pro)

Ensure you always have the latest files backed-up - backup at least once per week to cloud storage or on removable device.

Hope this helps.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

I read your post about shredding some of your C drive and wanted to help -- but need more information.

Did this laptop come with Win10 preinstalled or did you do the Win10 Upgrade?

This is important as it determines where you can obtain repair software.

We can proceed once you provide the information.

Thanks

Thank you for posting.

Can you successfully boot to Windows (desktop) ?

You write that your PC is different - what exactly is different ?

If you uninstalled McAfee it's difficult to see what exactly you removed but it may have been not too important/critical for Windows.

Yes, Windows Defender is OK (not the best, but OK) and better than McAfee (in my opinion).

It seems to take a little longer to boot up, but it is not all that bad. I want to purchase a security software that helps with the pc performance, what is your recommendations
