HP Split 13 x2 PC, 13-f010dx
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My 2014 HP Split 13 x2 PC, 13-f010dx, Serial [Personal Information Removed] purchased from Best Buy came with Win 8.1 preinstalled. In 2016 I did a free upgrade to Win 10, but didn’t like 10 and returned to Win 8.1 via «HP Recovery Partition» feature. The system successfully reverted to Win 8.1, but has since been giving the message that my Windows 8.1 hasn’t been activated, and requests a license key. Key isn’t written on the machine or the box, I have no idea where to find it. Needless to say, I feel no obligation to pay again for the Windows license. Best Buy suggested that I contact to HP. How I get product key for Windows 8.1???

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Sorry, but HP keeps no records of individual product keys assigned to individual PCs.  So, there is no way that HP can provide you the key.

However, you can run this utility in Windows and it will retrieve the key embedded in the UEFI firmware of your PC for you:  https://github.com/Superfly-Inc/ShowKeyPlus/releases/download/ShowKeyPlus6125/ShowKeyPlus.zip
