A couple of years ago I gave my wife a big box store HP notebook. Around Dec 2014, if I remember correctly. Bottom line I cannot find any numbers (model, S/N/, product. Not nothing. It is a HP 17.3 pavilion beatsaudio. (well I gess there is something.)
A few days ago it would not start. Went into trying to repair on startup. It wouldn't fix itself but then allowed me into other options but nothing worked.
I suspect the hard drive is gone. I can replace that. No I'm no techie, but i can removed a few screws and undo a ribbon cable (drive is already out actually.) My question is (no I did't make a recovery disk) is there anyway to get a system recovery disk through HP. I am sure I would have registered it. You can't hardly cut on one this days it doesn't automatically make you register. Or I am stuck with buying a new OS?

Hi:
Enter your notebook's product number in the box at the link below.
http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en
Select the driver information section.
Select the operating system the notebook originally came with from the drop down menu, and the last section on the driver page should be a link to order recovery media.
The notebook's product number can normally be found on the same sticker as the serial number.
If you can't find any info, then boot into the BIOS and there should be a product number listed in the system information window.

Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!
Somewhere on the case there will be a sticker that will have the serial number and product number. It might be inside the battery compartm,ent, if the battery is removable. We need to product number to check for Recovery Media availability.
We can proceed when you furnish that information.
