Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My notebook starts up with a black screen. Power LED is on. One can hear a single beep. The CPU is warm, the fan is spinning as much as possible. After disconnecting the battery only on the power supply, the laptop will not turn on. I replaced the RAM, disconnected the HDD and keyboard - no result. After removing the RAM - I hear 3 long beeps and 2 short beeps and the CAPS LOCK LED flashes. Please help.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Notebook - 15-af066sa laptop. I read that the laptop does not boot to Windows. There is a one beep sound. If the battery is disconnected then the laptop does not power on with the ac adapter only. You have replaced the RAM, disconnected the HDD and keyboard and it did not help. The laptop has 3 long beeps and 2 short beeps and the caps lock led flashes. Not to worry, I'll do my best to help you. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Did any hardware changes take place on the laptop recently post which this issue may have started?
  • Does the laptop overheat?

Please insert the memory and assemble the laptop back to its original model that should make the 3 long beeps and 2 shirt beeps go silent.

I did some research and recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

If the issue persists then suggest you to perform a BIOS rollback on the laptop.

Post the above steps if the laptop refuses to boot up correctly then I suggest you to go through our HP step by step troubleshooter guide.

I hope this helps. Let me know. Cheers! 🙂
