HP Pavilion Laptop PC 14-dv0097nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been using this laptop for 3 years now without any problem. Since last week it has been creating this problem. It freezes as soon as I start and log in in 2-5 minutes.

I have ran System Extensive Test from Boot Menu and it passed all the test.

What should I do now?

Hi @Palak11 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your laptop passed the System Extensive Test, the freezing issue might be related to software rather than hardware.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  • Check for Software Updates: Make sure that your operating system and all drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause stability issues.
  • Run a Malware Scan: Use a reputable antivirus or antimalware program to scan your system for any malicious software that might be causing the freezing.
  • Check Startup Programs: Some programs may be causing conflicts or overloading your system during startup. Try disabling unnecessary startup programs to see if the issue persists.
  • Check Task Manager: When the laptop starts freezing, open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if any particular process is consuming a lot of CPU or memory. This can help identify the culprit.
  • Update BIOS: If there's a BIOS update available for your laptop, consider updating it. Sometimes BIOS updates include fixes for stability issues. Software and Drivers for HP Pavilion Laptop PC 14-dv0097nr
  • Check Event Viewer: Look for any error messages or warnings in the Windows Event Viewer (search for "Event Viewer" in the Start menu). This can provide clues about what might be causing the freezing.
  • Perform a Clean Boot: Boot your laptop in a clean environment to see if any third-party software is causing the issue.
  • Restore to a Previous Restore Point: If the freezing started after a recent software installation or update, you can try restoring your system to a previous restore point when it was working fine.
  • Reset or Reinstall Windows: If all else fails, you may need to reset or reinstall Windows. This will remove all your personal files and installed programs, so make sure to back up your important data before proceeding.
