I have received a screen that says please install an operating system

That error can be caused by several things, first check to verify there are no media cards in the card reader,
no external devices connected Via USB and no media the DVD/CD drive. then try a reboot.
If that still continues, run the Diagnostic routine

To run the Diagnostic routine, with the PC off, start tapping the "Esc" key, while still tapping the "Esc" key press the start button.
Keep tapping the "Esc" key until a pop-up menu appears. Then pick Diagnostics, F2.

Report back with the results.  Most likely reason is the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced and Windows reinstalled.
