Elitebook 8560p
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi everybody,

My topic concerns a Elitebook 8560p with a "power on password"

I contacted HP and got the instruction email with SMC file. However, I could not get it to work. HP send me the file  and we checked everything vey carefully.
The system came back with "SMC command failure" which might be caused by the time/date stetting, which is not current because the RTC battery has been disconnected. The USB stick > 2GB, Fat32, UUID, USB 2.0 port all is correct.

But I can not get to the date/time  settings because of the power-on password blocks me.

HP found they did the best they could and I have to order a new mobo.
Is there any way to get to these time/date settings? Or is there another solution than changing the mobo?

Matter solved.

I replaced the bios chip with a new one and the system works perfectly.

Thanks for the response.

@bicalov

The reason it needs Date/Time set is it is time sensitive.

You could try to make one that is not time sensitive.

Download these files.

 https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zu4kdgxm052l87d/AAAMi-kfX4AVH8oTCbsOM4X9a?dl=0

Insert clean USB flash drive.

Then run USB Image tool.

Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE.

After restore remove flash drive.

Insert  flash drive into locked laptop and boot.”If HDD is installed remove before booting.”

At C:\OUTPUT   type CD..   “Then hit enter”

Type HPBR    “Then hit enter”

First thing is to save your settings.

Select #3 re-program.

Press “S” to save system information.

Type HPBR and hit enter.

Select   “FIRST RUN”

Then select model.

After reboot repeat same as above but this  time  SELECT “SECOND RUN”

Thanks for your reply, but you missed a point. The laptop has a power-up password.

One does not get the change to boot in Dos or do anything for that matter.

I can force a bios update with HPBR, but that does not clear the pw.

The 2nd Mazzif way can not be done for the same reason.

What I'm going to do now is order a bios chip and replace it. HP suggests to swop the mobo, but that comes down to the same. Only they do it at higher costs.

Where did you get the CMOS chip?  Off ebay?  More importanly was this hard to replace on the board?  Any suggestions when doing it?
