Greetings
I just reinstalled Windows 10 64bits after a system failure during updates. I contacted Microsoft, and they said that the problem was missing drivers in my system.
In Device manager, I found two missing devices,
1- Fingerprint scanner with hardware Ids:
USB\VID_138A&PID_0018&REV_0078
USB\VID_138A&PID_0018
2- Unknown device with hardware Ids:
ACPI\VEN_HPQ&DEV_0004
ACPI\HPQ0004
*HPQ0004
Please help me solving my laptop problems.
Thanks in advance

Hi:
You need these drivers...
This package contains the driver that enables the Validity Fingerprint Sensor in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The fingerprint sensor scans fingerprints for use with biometric security applications.
File name: sp58900.exe
This package provides the HP 3D DriveGuard software for supported notebook
models that are running a supported operating system. HP 3D DriveGuard protects
the hard drive by "parking the heads" if the notebook is accidentally dropped or
is abruptly impacted by another object.

Thank you very much for your answer.
Unfortunately, only the second part of your solution fixes its problem. The "Unknown devices" is now gone after installing the HP 3D DriveGuard driver as you kindly suggested. However, the fingerprint sensor is still not working! After I unpacked the suggested driver and run it, it starts the installation, then it exits without any word! Did not mention whether the installation succeeded or failed! when I returned back to the device manager, it shows a yellow exclamation mark beside the name of the sensor (finger print ...0018) as written. I right-clicked it and "Update driver", then it searches and said The most suitable driver is already installed. and the problem still exist
Could you help me further please?
Thanks in advance.

You're very welcome.
See if this works...
Go to the device manager and click on the fingerprint sensor device needing the driver.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.
That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp58900.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.
Then restart the PC.
Here is a partial copy and paste of the driver setup information file located in that driver folder.
It shows support for the hardware ID you posted so the driver should have worked.
DriverVer=09/06/2012,4.4.234.00
CatalogFile=wbf_vfs_0018.cat

Many thanks Paul for your care.
I did what you advised, but the computer said "The driver is up to date" and it shows the icon of the fingerprint with the yellow triangle!
I right clicked the properties and I found the following messages under "General" tab.
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the
drivers required for this device. (Code 31) {Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful.
What should I do to fix it?
Many thanks in advance.

Sorry that driver is not installing.
If it now shows the fingerprint sensor, right click on it, select Uninstall, check the uninstall driver box, restart the pc, and try this driver instead.

Thank again Paul for all your efforts, It is very embarrassing to annoy you frequently.
I did all what you advised, but after uninstalling, and restarting I found the driver state as previous (a yellow triangle over the drivers icon) Then I installed the new driver you advised, but a popup message says "Newer version of Validity WBF DDK is already installed."
"Newer version of Validity WBF DDK is already installed." and only "OK" button available.
I searched for a solution in Google, I found This HP solution about the same driver, and they advised to run the installer in Windows 7 compatibility mode, I did it, but the message box above appeared again!
I repeated the uninstallation of old driver three times, then finally I found the yellow triangled driver appeared below at the unknown devices (before it uses to appear under the validity sensors' section). Then I right clicked it, selected update driver, pointed to the driver you given me (SP58834), it starts to update, but after a while it pops up the following message:
What can I do further?

Wow, that driver is being very stubborn!
It looks like that was me that provided that guidance, but I told the person to use this driver, so maybe you shuold too.

This is from a different post than the one you found and the model the above driver worked for was a dv6-6102ax...close to your model number as was the one in that other post you found.
