I recently had to do a system recovery reset using my recovery CDs, everything seems fine, but unable to use internet explorer, it just freezes and I'm having to close it via task manager, HP support assistant - downloading mags & updates definition has been checking..... For ages, nothing happens, I even had a failed Windows update, HP wireless button driver, which downloaded but error installing, so I managed to download it manually, rebooted and it still shows in Windows update as available as an option update but will not install correctly, however device manager shows no problems, I managed to download a different browser Firefox but it will not open, I even disables antivirus, laptop just not itself, very slow responding, any ideas? Unable to upgrade to Windows 8.1 need to be able to use my browser ie

Hi @cornflakes,

Good Day! Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! I read your post about an issue with the computer freezing using IE, Firefox and the wifi not working.  Besides HP support assistant seems to be stuck or frozen. I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂

Fabulous diagnosis and superb analysis of the issue before posting.  Kudos to you on that score. It is always a privilege to work with technical specialists like you. 🙂

You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. We greatly appreciate you for doing business with HP.

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.

  • Please let me know the complete model# or the product# of the unit to assist you better.

As the notebook has numerous issues, It is possible that there may be a hardware issue with the computer.

I request you to run complete system diagnostics from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03467259

It takes about 2 hours to run and will report a failure code for failed components. Please make a note of any failed component. If anything fails, then the issue is hardware related.

So notebook needs to be serviced for this. Please contact HP phone support by following these steps:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

If warranty options are not available with HP and if the computer is out of warranty by a long time, then please contact a local technician to get the unit serviced or fixed.

HP may not have service options for the unit anymore if it is out of warranty by a long time as it is not manufactured by HP anymore.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Thanks for the reply, I did however manage to get my browser's working but sometimes they don't open or take a long time to load, I am currently running the test you suggested which going to take 4 1/2 hours very sad I am, so far nothing has shown, hard drive, smart, shirt DST, optimizes, and king DST, have all passed, wireless module, system board and processor all passed, the model I have is a HP g6-2334sa and the only thing in my Windows update that is showing as an important update is the wireless button driver? Every time I try to install it, it fails, and even if I download and install in manually, the message in update still shows, I have not even been promoted yet if I want to upgrade to Windows 8.1 or 10 yet, it's like this wireless button driver is preventing any other updates, when I go to device manager I have no problems showing in network, no yellow exclamation marks, but if I manually install the driver from HP then I do get a yellow exclamation mark showing, so then uninstall it, any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks

Hi @cornflakes,

I reviewed the post comprehensively. Superb job on trying these troubleshooting steps. Brilliant effort truly. 🙂 Kudos to you on that score. 🙂

Please first check if a hard wired Ethernet cable works fine and you are able to use internet explorer to go online?

If you are able to achieve both of these, then  Please try these steps to delete the network drivers and reinstall them from the HP support site.

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand Network adapters>then select the wifi drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers. Then check the box that says delete the software for this device.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios, chipset and wifi from this link: http://hp.com/drivers
  • Please select the country and type the product# of the unit. Then follow the on-screen instructions.

If this is not an option, recovery did not complete correctly like it should have. SO please try to run the recovery again to factory settings and if that does not do the trick for you, please order recovery media from Hp by contacting HP phone support by following these steps:

to contact HP phone support:

Also, you've been absolutely superb to work with considering your profound technical expertise. I thank you for giving me the privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved and the printer works great and stays healthy for a long time to come. 🙂

Trust me I've done all I can to assist you, by keeping your best interest in mind. 🙂

To simply say thanksplease click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

You take care, stay healthy, keep smiling big and have a blessed year ahead. 🙂
