HI all,

 

Recently opened disk partition at the request of a coworker and deleted one too many partitions - now when I go to install windows there is no disk being found beyond the USB drive I'm using as bootable media. Any suggestions how to get the SSD already installed to appear?

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with your SSD not being recognized during the Windows installation process. This could be a bit complex, but we'll try to help you sort it out.

 

This issue might be due to the SSD not being properly initialized or due to incorrect BIOS settings. Here are two possible solutions:

  1. Initialize SSD

    1. Boot your PC and press a specific key (usually F2, F12, DEL, or ESC) to enter BIOS.
    2. Change the boot order to boot from the USB drive.
    3. When you're in the Windows setup, press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt.
    4. Type "diskpart" and press Enter.
    5. Type "list disk" and press Enter. All your disks will be displayed.
    6. Identify your SSD (it's usually Disk 0), and then type "select disk 0" (replace 0 with your SSD number) and press Enter.
    7. Type "clean" and press Enter. This will delete all data and partitions on the selected disk.
    8. Type "create partition primary" and press Enter. This will create a new primary partition.
    9. Type "format fs=ntfs quick" and press Enter. This will quickly format the new partition to NTFS.
    10. Type "exit" and press Enter to exit DiskPart.
    11. Restart your PC and try to install Windows again.

2.Check BIOS Settings

  1. Enter your BIOS by pressing the appropriate key at startup (usually F2, F12, DEL, or ESC).
  2. Look for settings related to SATA Configuration or Storage Options. Make sure your SATA mode is set to AHCI, not IDE or RAID.
  3. Also, if your BIOS has a setting for UEFI/CSM or Legacy boot, make sure it's set to UEFI.
  4. Save your changes and exit the BIOS, then try to install Windows again.
