Need the exact model of the laptop to assess the wireless chip and the sound card hardware. I also suggest you install the later Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. 14 is an older kernel that is not going to support as many hardware devices. Linux sound and wireless card support is out there but it may require compiling some kernel Code and is a good opportunity to really figure out what running Linux is all about.

Many thanks Huffer, the model is: HP PAVILION 15-AU181NA. I tried 16.04 first before replacing it with 14 and it had thesame issue. I tried distribution upgrade  on both 16 and 14 but the error is still there. I am reporting 14 because that is what is running on the system.
