HAVE A DV7-6C95DX WITH WINDOWS 10 ON IT (WAS UPGRADED TO 10 B4 I GOT IT) -IN THE PAST I HAD ANOTHER OF THE SAME MODEL MACHINE WITH UBINTU ON IT AND USED MY RECOVERY DISC SET FOR THE 6C95DX TO RECOVER W7 AND THE UBINTU DISAPPEARED AND ALL WAS WELL--- BACK TO THE ONE WITH W10 --IN THIS MACHINE THE 6C95 DISC WILL NOT START UP ON ITS OWN THUS THE W7 RECOVERY WONT FLY AND W10 LOADS --- IF I GET IT STARTED WONT THE HDD BE WIPED AND W7 BE INSTALLED (CAME WITH W7 STICKER ON BACK)
--------------UPDATE--------------RESET THE SETTINGS IN AUTOPLAY, MOVIE PLAYS WHEN DISC IS PUT IN DRIVE USING (POWER DVD15)
SHUT DOWN POWER----PUT IN DISC 1-- 6C95DX, POWER ON -----NOTHING HAPPENS----WHAT SETTING FOR AUTOPLAY FOR THE RECOVERY DISC?

Sounds like the PC is not set to boot from the optical drive, first. You should press Esc repeatedly while booting to see if that brings up a Boot Selection menu, and if it does, you can use that to select the optical drive.
And yes, the recovery media set will reformat the drive, recreate the original partitions, and reinstall the OS, the drivers, and the HP applications.
