For some strange reason, this laptop will not go to sleep if the lid is left open (even while running on battery). The computer sleeps only if the lid is closed. When left open, the screen will go off, but the laptop remains awake.
I've checked all power settings and the laptop is supposed to sleep after 10 minutes while on battery and 20 minutes if plugged in. However, the system just simply won't do it. I've checked the task manager and I don't see any tasks there that wake the system up to run.
Can anyone please shed some light on this situation? Is it the OS or is it some HP SW that is causing this issue?

Hi @Andrea227,
Thanks for reaching out. A Good day to you. I understand that you have issues with sleep hen the lid is not closed. I’ll be glad to assist you with this.
Superb troubleshooting and spectacular diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. You are a very important HP customer and it is paramount to assist you. I also take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
To assist you better, I would require more information regarding this.
- Did this happen after a windows or software update? Do you know?
- Did you update the bios, chipset and graphics drivers?
For starters, please follow all the prescribed steps from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Spectre-x360-Convertible-PC-series/12499178/model/13443279/do... relevant to your situation. Disable Hybrid sleep and check again.
Then uninstall the graphics drivers from device manager by performing these steps:
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> Display adapters>then select the display drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the graphics drivers.
- Please check the box that says “delete the software for this device”.
- Then restart the computer
Later please update the bios, chipset and graphic drivers from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Spectre-x360-Convertible-PC-series/12499178/model...
Then check if this works. If not please uninstall the ACPI drivers from device manager and restart the computer and check again.
Then perform these steps to see if it gets resolved:
- Go to Control Panel, then click Power Options.
- From the Select a power plan page, click Choose what the power buttons do from the list on the left panel.
- On the Define power buttons and turn on password protection page, you then have the option of choosing what happens when you:
- press the power button
- press the sleep button
- When I close the lid- select the sleep option (not shutdown or hibernate)
- Now check again.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
