Hi,
To install Windows 7 64bit on a drive with a guid partition table you need to do the following.
Shutdown the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to enter the Start-up Menu and then select the Bios Menu ( f10 ).
Under the System Configuration tab, expand the Boot Options Menu.
You need to set Secure Boot to Disabled and Legacy Devices to Enabled.
When done, press f10 and select to save the changes.
You may then have to enter a 4 digit pin displayed on the screen to confirm the setting changes - enter the code and hit enter.
Insert the Windows 7 installation disc and Shutdown the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to enter the Start-up Menu and then select the Boot Options Menu ( f9 ).
Use the arrow keys to highlight the CDROM (uefi) option ( Note: you must choose the cdrom option that has the (uefi suffix ) and hit enter - if prompted to 'Press any key to continue....' - do so.

Hi,
In that case, let me know the following.
1. What is the full Model No. of your HP 2000 series notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information.
2. What entries are listed in the Boot Manager (f9) menu?
3. Just so that I'm clear on this, are you tring to boot from a Windows 8 installation disc?
4. What is the status of Secure Boot - you can find this as follows.
Shutdown the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to enter the Start-up Menu and then select the Bios Menu ( f10 ).
Under the System Configuration tab, expand the Boot Options Menu.
Is the entry for Secure Boot showing as Enabled or Disabled?

Hi,
It's possible that the disc you're trying to boot from isn't supported by secure boot.
Boot back into the bios and disable secure boot, save the change, then see if the optical dive shows as a boot option.
Note: If your current OS is Windows 8, you'll need to re-enable secure boot in order to boot the OS.

Hi,
Unfortunately it does start to look like the drive may have failed - if I do think of anything else, I'll post back to this thread.
