an operating system wasnt found. this happened after i attempted to reset it. bought it used

Did the recovery/reset complete successfully, 100% , without any issues or errors ?  Based on the message you get now, it seems it didn't.

It may be caused because of hardware issue or because the recovery did not complete (therefore, no operating system is fully and correctly installed). It might also be a BIOS settings incorrect.
