spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have been using hp spectre x360 for a while now & noticing the CPU spikes to 100% very frequently - which affects and distorts the video/audio viewing experience and makes the system very slow at times.

when i check in the task manager, it's the "service host: local system", "microsoft register server (32 bit)" mainly using most of the % of utilization - both being system processes and not any installed softwares.

can a support person pls give a solution to this on how to improve back the performance?

thanks.

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! After reading your post I see that CPU usage spikes to100%. I would like to help you out with this issue today.

You need to increase this virtual memory. Make it equivalent to your RAM size for the initial size and twice of the initial size in maximum size and make sure you have the same amount of free space in your hard drive in each drive.

To do this, follow the following steps:

  • Go to Control PanelAll control panel items > System
  • Click on Advanced system settings
  • Under performance, click on settings
  • Go to Advanced tab
  • Under Virtual memory, click on Change
  • UN-check "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" check box
  • Select your windows drive (where OS is installed)
  • Click on Custom size radio button
  • Set Initial size equivalent to your RAM size in MB
  • Set Maximum size to twice of your RAM size in MB
  • Click on Set
  • Click on OK thrice
  • Restart your system

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

The CPU is fluctuating ~50% now, but the system stuttering issue is still there.

behavior is like, the screen doesn't immediately respond to keyboard/mouse, the audio/video stutters (with a breaking voice), etc for a couple of seconds, then resumes back normal.

could you pls help me identify what's the issue and how we can solve this?

this is really becoming annoying.

Thanks,

Avenash

As you have already tried these steps and still having the issue, I would personally suggest you contact our HP phone support for further assistance. If your product is Out of warranty then remember to choose the paid options to get the tech support number.

They might have multiple options to help you on this.

Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number and phone number appear.
