Hi @seamstress,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips, Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I see from the post that you are having issues restoring the PC using the recovery media on your HP notebook. I'll be really glad to help you with this,

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you made any software or hardware changes made on the PC?

Did you run any test on the PC?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook.

Run the System diagnostics test as well as an extensive test on the Hard drive from F2 (please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance)

Depending on the test results, If all the test passes I would suggest you contact our HP phone support to order a set of recovery media. Please fill in the product details to get the tech support number. Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

Keep me posted for any other assistance,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

I did do all the testing that I was prompted to try  and test ok,, so I tried installing the media recovery disk and the problem came up couldn't finish installing ,  so I tryed one more time and the same thing happened, I realized that the media recovery disks was the problem. And since I couldn't make a 2nd copy  to check if it was my dvd's or  if a file in the media recovery was either damaged or corrupt or missing..I will try to contact hp for a copy of the disk I need to get my laptop going again..this is the worse laptop I've ever  owned and it's not even a month old..

I tryed the link that was posted,,and it did not work...

Hi @seamstress,

Thank you for replying,

As I understand you have tried running the test which passed without any errors, this clearly indicates this could be a software issue. The only other way to install Windows would be to order the recovery media for your laptop and using the recovery media you can install Windows. You can check if the recovery media is available online on www.hp.com/drivers by entering the exact model no. of your laptop. To find the exact model no. click here: http://hp.care/2bygf7l.

Otherwise, you could also reach HP phone support to order the recovery media. Please fill out an online form on www.hp.com/contacthp to reach phone support.

And I Hope you have a good day, Ahead.

I understand that you did not receive the email with a link to order the recovery media.
