Hi @joannette

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome onboard!

No, this is not very common.

This is related to HP Support Assistant (HPSA). Probably it was checking for updates.

Your options are:

1- Open HSPA and Disable automatic check and automatic installation of updates from HPSA. For example, on my HP computers I have done this I only manually check for updates. Note - these updates that are offered are not usually critical and they are recommended but not necessary to be applied rapidly, immediately, on daily bases (like your antivirus updates, for example)

or

2- Uninstall HPSA and related software. Restart your computer and re-install it back. Then, disable the automatic updates

or

3- Completely uninstall HP Support Assistant and related software. While HPSA is very useful, it is not mandatory to be used and can safely be uninstalled. The offered updates are not usually critical. You can get updates from Windows Updates or apply them manually taken from HP web site http://support.hp.com

Hope this helps. Let me know if you face difficulties.
