After an automatic HP update, my Microsoft Word and Excel programs won't work and my files won't open.  What caused this and what can I do to fix the problem without losing my files?  I have files that are part of my work and I HAVE to have them ASAP.  Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Hi:

Try running the system restore utility and select a restore point to a time before the automatic HP update ran.

If you are unfamiliar with how to use this program, please read the info at the link below.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore

Then change you HP update program to notify you that there are updates and you choose when to install them rather than it being done automatically.

That way you can run them and find out which one is blowing up your system and you can prevent that one from running the next time.

Or you can just leave things as they are if they are working OK for you.

Hi

Please find the steps to resolve your issue.

  1. Open Installed Updates by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then, under Programs and Features, clicking View installed updates.

  2. Click the update that you want to remove, and then click UninstallAdministrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    Or Try this step

If this does not resolve your issue then you can try a System restore to the date where unit was working fine steps provided below for you.

Start in search box type System Restore then click on it then select the Date where unit was working fine.

Let us know how it goes!

Hello,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.

1. Check your Office license key and keep it handy

(if you cannot find it, use one of these 3rd party utilitities to read the key -> https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/  or  http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html  - both are free)

2. Read the appropriate article and follow the instructions:

Office 2013 or Office 365:

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Uninstall-Office-2013-or-Office-365-from-a-Windows-computer...

Office 2010:

https://support.office.com/en-ca/article/Uninstall-or-remove-Microsoft-Office-2010-suites-90635a1d-a...

Office 2003 / 2007 / 2010:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971179

After uninstalling the software from Control Panel, you might also need to run removal utility.

3. Finally, re-install your Office suite using either online installer mode or offline media (depending on your Office licence type)

The above instructions should fix the issue.

Since I dowloaded Windows 10, my money program won't work.  It opens, then shuts down.

what OS are you running and for one thing i find that my 2007 home and student office on windows 8 a bit glitchy which i had to wait a few minutes before i can run it

but i can still use the my excel and word and do what i have been doing in the past like normal just an issue when right after i open to get to work

but since i upgrade to windows 10 " voila"  it works and no glitch and the wait and go right to work so i can edit the documents w/o the wait

and 5172 try to re-install your money application and see if it will work again
