system recovery windows 7 to factory settings from disks hangs.Recovery went well to the point starting windows, prepare for first use, Welcome to Windows!, some HP messages, configuring updates, close. And then starting windows; end of story. After 10 minutes hard reset and boot the same. Booting in save mode gives messages 'cannot prepare for first use in save mode, continue after boot'. Hi Frank,

Thanks for your effort. Problem solved after a couple of retries. Replacement of a fawlty dvd diskdrive didn't hurt I think. But without any info from a recovery proces one never knows.

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and product number (p/n) of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.

The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer, inside the battery compartment or on the startup BIOS screen. Please see How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? for more assistance locating this information. DO NOT include your serial number.

Please see HP PCs - Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 7) for troubleshooting information. If none of the advice in that document helps, please perform the HP Recovery again and let it run uninterupted for several hours after it appears to be finished. If you still are having issues, please see Hard Disk Error Displays before the Computer Starts or Testing a Hard Disk from the BIOS to test the hard drive for issues.
