hey

i recently reinstalled the os from the restore partition. i cannot seem to update through windows update. the computer justs hangs with no progress. is there a patch or fix to correct this? its running win 7 home.  Any help is appreciated.

See if installing this July 2016 rollup gets windows update to work.  At least you will have the updates through July.

If the JUly 2016 rollup fixes the problem, then good.

 

But ... if it does not, I have used this method successfully on my Win7 PCs:

 

Download these updates before starting the installation process and copy them to a USB flash drive.

Install Windows 7 with SP1 and leave the network cable disconnected.

Disconnect the network cable or disable the WiFi.

Install these two updates from the flash drive before connecting to the network and running Windows Update.

Have to stop the Windows Update service BEFORE installing each of these: net stop wuauserv

NOTE: KB3172605 supercedes KB3161608 which supercedes KB3102810
