Does anyone know how to get a scanner, paperport, and OCR software to work on my HP Pavilion with a processor of AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.00GHz???? It says that its system type is a 32-bit operating system. What is the CPU if it is not the operating system? I am an attorney and can not work without the scanner and softwaresupport. I am confused about the 64 vs 32 bit issue. It seems that the operating system can be a 64 or 32, and the CPU can be a 64 or a 32. Can anyone help me? I am ready to give this one away and start over, but I can't even shop for another computer and make sure it is a 32 bit system because they don't seem to tell me in the specs. I looked at the Dell Inspiron 1525, and it says it has a 2GHz Core Duo T7250. Is that processor a 32 or a 64? I don't even know how to bail and start over! Anyone have any ideas? Very much appreciated.

Hi BPenny,
I have my Paperport working on my HP Pavillion. I don't know which version of Paperport you have, but if you have Paperport 11, you can use it.
I did have a problem with my Vista in the beginning, I kept getting a DEP warning. So, I looked that up and then I followed the instructions on how to allow the program to ignore the DEP. It's a protection thing.
I do believe you have to have Paperport Version 11 at least to use it on your system.

Hi BPenny,
I know my Pavillion D5200 is a 64 bit system because I customized it when I ordered it. That's the reason I started this whole thread. I've come across 2 programs that I've always used that don't work on 64 bit. The others, so far, work fine or if they don't I've been able to download some routines to make them compatible.
Yes, if you're not sure if you have a 32 bit or 64 bit, just right click on "computer" and it will tell you everything you need to know about what your system is running.
As I said in another post, there are some programs that don't behave well on 64 bit, and I imagine some that don't work well with Vista, but many times you can right click on the properties of the program and you can run it in XP mode, Windows 98 mode and whatever other choices are there.
I run into some situations and don't know if it's the 64 bit factor or the Vista factor. I hate Vista, but I didn't have a choice when I was picking and choosing how I wanted this computer configured.
I think I might just get another internal HD and format it with 32bit and run Windows XP on it and have it dual boot. Then I can have the best of both worlds. If there is such a thing as having the best of both worlds.

You might want to go to this address: http://www.start64.com/index.php?option=com_conten
and read it to see how to download the 64bit version of the program.
If this doesn't work for you, try going to Google and googling something like "64 bit version of Visual C++ 8.0"
Hope this helps.

I have the HP DV3-1075us notebook that is running vista 64 bit. I was thinking of putting XP on a 250gb external HD and boot from it when I need to but.....would I still be able to utilize the USB ports on the computer??

wouldn't the files be read only on the DVD?Try saving to HD then editing.
