HP Probook 4520s Hard Drive Volume Bitmap Problem

I've recently had to replace the hard drive of my HP Probook 4520s, since it was faulty with a Western Digital SATA 2 500GB 5400rpm Scorpio Blue Hard Drive.  I've reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP3 32-Bit (which came along with my HP Probook) and all the neccessary drivers and software related to my HP Probook 4520s.  I have split the hard drive into 2 partitions.  After I finished reinstalling the OS and all the neccessary software.

I ran chkdsk in the DOS prompt, to check the health of my hard drive and I got a Volume Bitmap error.  At first I thought the replacement hard drive maybe defective so, I restarted HP Probook.  Then used the HP HDD Diagnostic Software, which is contained within the BIOS to check the hard drive for problems and it said that my hard drive passed the test.  So I assume that the hard drive is perfectally fine.  I rebooted into Windows XP, then ran chkdsk again in the DOS prompt and got the same error.  However when I ran the chkdsk c: command in the DOS prompt I didn't get the "Volume Bitmap error", which I find strange as when I ran chkdsk at the DOS prompt with or without the c: prefix it should show the same results.  But I get two different results.

Could somebody tell what could possibly be causing this error?

Re: HP Probook 4520s Hard Drive Volume Bitmap Problem

I have seen this bug in XP for years, I ignore it. Never found any reason or solution either.

Is the new drive an "advanced format" hard drive?

I don't think so, I replaced the Toshiba SATA 2 500GB 7200rpm hard drive that was originally in my HP ProBook 4520s with a Western Digital Scorpio Blue SATA 2 500GB 5400rpm hard drive.

I've also noticed that while I was installing all the drives in my HP Probook 4520s, I couldn't get the Intel Chipset driver to install, all the other drivers install perfectly fine.  Some had to be installed via the device manager.  Could that have caused the problem?

Re: HP Probook 4520s Hard Drive Volume Bitmap Problem

Typically I install the chipset driver first, before any other drivers, I have seen in rare cases when you don't do this problems will result trying to install it after other drivers.

I doubt it has anything to do with the chkdsk issue.

When I inserted the HP Drivers and Applications Disk into my HP Probook 4520s, I ran the install all HP drivers option first.  I thought that it would install the drivers in the correct order.  Afterwards I discovered that I had to install the drivers for the Wireless Network Card, built-in Bluetooth Adaptor, and the CPU via the Device Manager.

Re: HP Probook 4520s Hard Drive Volume Bitmap Problem

I've recently checked the BIOS settings on my HP Probook 4520s to see if the store I purchased it from set it properly before I received my HP Probook 4520s, and I've noticed that the SATA Hard Drive mode is set to run on AHCI and not IDE Mode. Could that be what is causing the Volume Bitmap Error when I run chkdsk?
